DI Horton's off to the Isle of Wight Festival

The Isle of Wight Festival officially kicks off tomorrow, Friday 22 June, which means that thousands of people will be travelling across the Solent today and first thing tomorrow morning in time to set up their tents for the first acts. It will be a hectic time for anyone travelling to the Isle of Wight, so I won't be but I've used the Isle of Wight Festival in the new DI Horton marine mystery crime novel Death Lies Beneath, which is being published in the UK on 27 July and in the USA in November 2012.  I won't spoil it for readers by saying why Horton is drawn to the very popular music festival on the Island but it is obviously connected with an investigation on Horton's home patch, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.

I hope the weather stays fine for the festival goers although the forecast is a bit gloomy. Still, no doubt, whatever the weather they'll all have a great time.

When ex con, Daryl Woodley is found dead on the marshes bordering Langstone Harbour the Intelligence Directorate believe his murder is linked to big time crook Marty Stapleton currently serving time in prison. DI Horton is not so sure. He attends Woodley’s funeral in the hope it will give them a lead in an investigation that has drawn a blank at every turn. It does but not in the way he or anyone expected. A body found on a rotting boat being salvaged in Portsmouth Harbour throws Horton into a complex and frustrating investigation. As the tension mounts to solve the case, Horton receives a chilling message; time, it seems, is also running out for him personally…

Set in the Solent area on the South Coast of England

'Deserves mention in the same breath as American procedurals (those by Ed McBain or Joseph Wambaugh for example) and their British counterparts... Peter Robinson and John Harvey.' Booklist starred review
