It's been a good day for selling books

As result of a conference talk I gave in November to a very nice group of administration officers from schools in my area (at which I sold tons of books and ran out of copies) the good organiser of the conference volunteered to circulate an order form for my marine mysteries to all delegates who attended. So today I toddled off to a lovely little infants school in the Hampshire countryside to sign pre-ordered copies of my novels, (including my latest, Deadly Waters, which is in hardback) and write personal inscriptions for those who wanted them. I was truly delighted that so many people wanted to buy my novels either for themselves or as Christmas presents. I hope they enjoy reading them.

The voting is continuing for World Book Day Spread The Word 2008 and I'm busy drumming up as many votes as I can from anyone who has the misfortune to speak to me. I stopped short of telling the dustmen this morning, but if I don't get enough votes to get into the TOP TEN then maybe I will. Do you think if I threatened to withhold their Christmas bonus it would be interpreted as bribery and corruption?

I'm in our local bookshop on Friday for our late night Christmas Shopping evening and Christmas festivities so perhaps I can bend a few ears then about World Book Day and In Cold Daylight. It promises to be a great evening with the local shopkeepers in fancy dress, and wine and nibbles in the shops. Outside in our tiny high street, there will be carol singers, roast chestnuts,a merry-go-round and donkey rides. Now where else in the UK does this happen? If it does in your village or home town let me know. Fingers crossed for a fine night, last Friday was howling a gale off the Solent fierce enough to blow you from one side of Hayling Island to the other and raining so hard you'd have been forgiven for thinking the world was coming to an end. Let's pray for a lovely crisp, cold evening. And no I won't be in fancy dress, though I could wear a Harley Davidson jacket if DI Andy Horton will loan his to me. Could there be a body in the bookshop? (Probably mine) I mean a dead body. Or perhaps death on the donkey, or murder on the merry go round? Me feels a new plot coming on...
