Great time yesterday at the Probus Club where I was guest speaker, talking about my crime novels

Image
I was guest speaker at the Probus Club, Havant, yesterday where I gave a lunchtime talk to over forty retired and semi retired men about my DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime novels and my thriller novels, which are all set in Portsmouth and the Solent area of England. I hope the audience enjoyed my talk as much as I enjoyed giving it. They were a great crowd and the lunch, provided by a talented young chef who runs a restaurant at the venue (open to the public) at Denvilles House called Chef Sam , was excellent with a very creative dessert! Wish I'd taken a picture of it. But instead you'll have to suffer photographs of me! Pauline Rowson addressing the audience I spoke for thirty minutes after which I took a lively question and answer session and then signed copies of my novels. Pauline Rowson explaining how she writes her crime novels Thank you for asking me.

Murder, mystery and mayhem at the Women's Institute tonight with crime author Pauline Rowson

Murder and mayhem is on the agenda tonight when I will be guest speaker at the Women's Institute in  Broad Chalke, near Salisbury, UK giving a talk about my Inspector Andy Horton crime novels and my thrillers. I've spoken at many WI meetings and always enjoy them. Tonight, as at other WIs, I am sure that the audience will be friendly and welcoming. Hopefully I'll be able to post some photographs from the event on the blog tomorrow. Then it's off to the Isle of Wight next week to present prizes to the adult winners of the Wight Fair Writing Circle Winter Short Story Competition in aid of charity before supping coffee and stuffing croissants at the Julian Clegg BBC Radio Solent Christmas party in Southampton on Christmas Eve. A perfect run up to Christmas.

Guest speaker, stormy weather and DI Horton revisions

Image
Another stormy day on the south coast of England and another day of catching up with my writing, although I need a little sort out of the plot lines first. Nevertheless the next DI Horton is steaming along. I aim to finish this second draft by Christmas and then it will be revision time until, hopefully, it is ready in March. I explained how I write my marine mystery crime novels yesterday at a charity lunch in aid of the Wessex Cancer Trust, which was held at The Concorde Club on the outskirts of Southampton. I was guest speaker and there was a good crowd there.  The lunch was splendid and at the last count they had raised £800 for the charity, which is great news. I signed tons of books and introduced my novels to new readers.  I hope they enjoy them. It is almost my final event before Christmas.  I have one more to undertake next week, and that is sharing my experiences of being an author with some senior school children who have an inter...

London Marathon 2009

Last night I was the guest speaker at a charity supper in aid of the Wessex Medical Trust . This charity, based on the south coast of England, isn't as widely known as it deserves to be because the research carried out by it has a major impact on many of us Worldwide. Over a period of more than 30 years it has raised in excess of £18 million in voluntary donations to support critical medical research projects into conditions that affect every age group - from infant asthma to Alzheimer's. At present they are funding research into Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Meningitis, Osteoporosis and Alzheimer's disease. The charity volunteers cooked the supper- Shepherd's pie for the meat eaters and a choice of a cauliflower dish or leeks and broccoli for the vegetarians (me) - delicious. The food was cooked in the volunteer's homes and then taken to the parish centre of St Mary's Church, Alverstoke, Gosport where it was kept hot in the small kitchen, until it was time to...
