I'm a frequent traveller to the Isle of Wight where some of my novels are set, for example the thriller, In For The Kill and the DI Andy Horton crime novel, Blood on the Sand .   The DI Horton novel I have just finished writing, number seven in the series, called A Killing Coast , is also partly set on the Isle of Wight and partly in Portsmouth, Andy Horton's home patch. I travel either by Hovercraft or on the Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne.  And I've also carried out two marathon book signings on the Wightlink ferry, travelling backwards and forwards over eight hours meeting travellers and signing copies of my crime and thriller novels in 2008 and in 2007. Tomorrow is the awards ceremony for the southern area Young Crime Writers' Competition, organised by the Crime Writers' Association and supported by the Library service, and which I have had the pain and pleasure of judging.  I say pain because the entries were so  good and two in particular brilliant that I have been agonising over which one will go forward for the national finals. And I so hate to disappoint  nine of the young people who I have shortlisted and who along with their families will be at Portsmouth Central Library tomorrow morning to receive their certificates and learn which of them has won the area award. Each shortlisted entrant will receive a certificate while the area winner will be awarded a certificate and a £10 book token and will go forward for the national prize. In for the Kill my crime thriller novel featuring Alex Albury is set on the  Isle of Wight , just five miles off Portsmouth on the south coast of England. It is a beautiful Island with lots of lovely walks and spectacular coastal views, very popular as a holiday resort in the spring and summer months, and heaven for walkers and cyclists, as well as becoming increasingly famous for its music festivals. The pace of life is slower and the Island has one of the best sunshine records of any part of Britain.
