Read an e Book Week 6 - 12 March 2011 is  here again and although the purpose of Read an E Book Week is the same as when it was first devised, i.e. to encourage people to read e books this year also sees it celebrating the fortieth anniversary since the first e book was created. Read an e book Week is now over for another year. My crime thriller novel, In For The Kill , was offered as a free e book for one week only, between 7-13 March 2010. Some authors wouldn’t agree with giving away free copies of their novels but sometimes it is a good way to raise one’s profile and introduce your work to people who might not normally come across you or be inclined to pick up one of your novels to read. Analysing the early results of this marketing activity, it seems to have been successful. In For The Kill was mentioned on the Read an E Book Week web site, on several blogs, in the book trade press, and of course on my own blogs and social network sites, including Twitter and Facebook, thereby generating traffic to my official web site. March and spring is on its way, hooray! So what have I got happening in March? Quite a lot actually. Aside from putting the finishing touches to the Inspector Andy Horton novel I’m writing there are a clutch of events. Firstly, my crime thriller novel In For The Kill is being featured in Read an E Book Week 7-13 March 2010. In For The Kill is set on the Isle of Wight on the south coast of England and is a thriller about what happens to one man when his identity is stolen. For Alex Albury, the hero, the nightmare that destroyed his life will only end in death; his or his tormentor’s. With its twists and turns the reader is sucked into a frightening world of deception, betrayal and revenge in a highly topical story that has its roots deep in the past. OK, so it wasn't exactly a riot, more like a very friendly gathering, but I thought that headline might catch the imagination of the blogosphere and Internet jungle grapevine, as well as the eye of all those on my vast number of social network sites which receive a feed from this blog. I had a great night last night at Hayling Island's Women's Institute meeting. About forty ladies were present and made me very welcome indeed. They also allowed my husband, Bob, into the meeting as my official photographer and bouncer. Not that I needed a bouncer on this occasion. All were very friendly and bought lots of books, for which I thank them. I already had some readers in the audience so that was nice, and it was good to have their feedback. And in case you're getting the wrong idea about me I don't actually need a bouncer, I'm not getting mobbed by the masses, yet...! Though perhaps if the success of Read An E Book Week continues and the new readers of my marine myster...
