Crime, croissants and Happy Christmas with Clegg

Image
I had a great time at the Christmas party this morning at the BBC Radio Solent studio in Southampton. Good fun, croissants, coffee and mince pies and Julian Clegg, of course. I was talking to Julian Clegg on The Breakfast Programme about my marine mystery crime novels, the possibility of film and television adaptations and the recent news that they are to be translated into Turkish. I met some interesting people including Hannah Watts, Young Ambassador for the London Olympic Games,an energetic and inspirational young person. She is to the left of Julian Clegg in the mauve top. It was also nice to catch up with my friend and fellow author, Ali Sparkes. Ali is on the left holding her novel, Frozen in Time , which has been shortlisted for the Blue Peter Prize with me holding Dead Man's Wharf. Thanks to Julian Clegg for all his support over the last year and to Talia Slack for her superb organisation and clip board, and to all involved with the programme including the c...

On The Radio

I'm on the radio twice this week. On 23 September I will be on Angel Radio which is a station dedicated to 'snap, crackle and no pop.' It is run primarily by older people who have created a unique radio service for lovers of vintage music and nostalgia. You can listen to it on the web site www.angelradio.co.uk or on 101.1FM. The station has listeners from all over the UK and the USA, so I'll get a chance to say 'hello' to some of my readers in the States. I'm being interviewed about my novels and my forthcoming appearance at the Havant Literary Festival on Saturday 27 September from 10.30 to 12.30. Tune in to Angel Radio if you get the chance. Then on Friday 26 September I will be on BBC Radio Solent at the incredibly early time of 7.30am. Just right for catching the drive time crowd. (Must remember to sound alert - though that might be difficult if I haven't had my caffeine injection by then.) You can listen in as I speak with Julian Clegg on 9...

A Radio Star!

I'm on the radio today, or rather I'm recording a programme that will be broadcast on Tuesday 27 May at 7pm on Express FM . I've been told I have an hour to talk about writing, and my novels, and to read extracts from my marine mysteries crime and thriller novels. I can even play music if I wish! This all sounds intriguing. Am I alone in the studio? Do I structure my own programme? Will anyone listen to me? I've decided to base my programme around a series of questions that I often get asked by readers and which forms the basis of my talks. These are: Why do I write crime? Where do my ideas come from? What comes first - plot or characters? How do I develop characters? Whose story is it? How do I write? How long does it take me to write a book? And the answers? Well, you'll have to listen to Express FM! But in case you can't pick up the radio station in your area, I'll divulge the answers in due course. Must dash, have to wash my hair to make sure I look nice...
