Here are some photographs taken from the event organised by the Wight Fair Writers Circle and by fellow crime authors Bob and Carol Bridgestock. Thanks to the Wight Fair Writers Circle for inviting me to present the certificates and to Wightlink who sponsored my travel to the Isle of Wight.  (I also got to travel on the Bridge of the Wightlink ferry again but I'm saving those photos for another blog entry- some great location shots of DI Andy Hort...

I am delighted that I have again been asked to present the prizes and certificates to the winners and runners up of the Wight Fair Writers Circle for their Winter Short Story Writing Competition at an awards ceremony on the Isle of Wight on 20 December. I was privileged to present prizes to the lucky winners of last year's winter short story competition and this year in June for the Wight Fair Writers Circle Crime Competition. It's always a pleasure to meet budding writers and encourage new writing talent. Pauline Rowson presenting prizes to the winners of the Crime and Intrigue Short Story Competition

Image
On Monday 20 June I was privileged to present the prizes to the winners of the Crime and Intrigue Short Story Competition organised by the Wight Fair Writers Circle . It was held in Newport Minster with the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Susie Sheldon present. It's great to see so many young people enjoying writing. I didn't judge this competition or get to read the winning entries but the titles of some of the stories were fantastic, one was called 'My Daddy's a Criminal' - hope he isn't! Pauline Rowson with the competition winners and the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Susie Sheldon The police set up a Scene of Crime and the audience were able to have their fingerprint taken and pressed into a badge, much like we did at the Portsmouth CSI event last year, only then the fingerprint was pressed into a key ring. So now I have a key ring with my thumbprint and a badge with my fingerprint. Pauline Rowson withe the local police It was a lo...

In the studio with Pauline Rowson and Alex Dyke - BBC Radio Solent

Image
Really enjoyed my interview with Alex Dyke on his Big Hour slot on BBC Radio Solent on Monday 20 June. He's great to chat to, even if a bit challenging sometimes, but then that's what makes good radio I guess.  We discussed many aspects of writing and publishing as well as my character, the rugged and flawed DI Andy Horton.  Alex asked me if I was in love with him, Andy Horton that is not Alex, and I said of course I am! Hope to return to the show for another interview in the near future.

I'll be presenting prizes to the winners of the Crime & Intrigue Short Story Competition in June

On Monday 20 June I will be presenting prizes to the winners of the Crime & Intrigue Short Story Competition on the Isle of Wight, organised by the Wight Fair Writers' Circle. I'll also be signing copies of my DI Andy Horton crime novels and my thrillers, alongside crime writing team Bob and Carol Bridgestock . In addition, the local police will be there and setting up a crime scene in Newport Minster, where the event is being held. It promises to be great fun. The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Suzie Sheldon, will also be present. All proceeds from the competition are going to charity, the Love Russia Charity and the Isle of Wight Homeless Charities. And the ladies from the church are providing tea, coffee and cakes with the money they raise going to the Minster funds. So it's all in a good cause. The competition is now closed and the judging has begun, but this time, unlike the CWA Young Crime Writers Competition, I am not involved in the judging.  I am sur...

I'm very grateful to Wightlink who generously sponsored my trip across to the Isle of Wight from the mainland at Portsmouth.  All proceeds from the competition, organised by Carol Bridgestock and the Wight Fair Writers Circle go to the Love Russia Charity, The Multiple Sclerosis Society and The Barely Born Appeal. Crime author Pauline Rowson giving a talk before the prize giving ceremony I was also delighted to sign copies of my novels, two of which are set on the Isle of Wight, a thriller In For The Kill and an I...

Anyone still dreaming of a White Christmas?

I managed to do a good chunk of writing over the weekend, in between making soup, bread, mince pies and doing a little Christmas shopping. Oh, and taking elderly mother out in the snow and ice to top up on her needs in case the snow stays around or we get more of it. Down here in the soft south, snow before Christmas is practically unheard of.  Yes, we've had the occasional flurry before the festive season but if we do get snow then it usually arrives after Christmas, sometimes on Boxing Day. The novelty now seems to have worn off, even the children aren't playing in the snow or building snowmen anymore; been there, done that, got the T shirt. But back to the writing. The new Inspector Andy Horton crime novel is coming along a treat. I'm on second revisions and it's shaping up well. For those who have asked me there is a little more in this novel about Andy's quest to find out what happened to his mother after she walked out on him and disappeared from his life wh...

Three more appearances and talks to come before the year draws to a close. Then on 15 December I will be travelling to Broad Chalke in Salisbury to give a talk to the Women’s Institute, which is followed by a trip across the water to the Isle of Wight on 21 December to give a short talk and present the prizes to the adult winners of The Wight Fair Writers Circle, A Winter Short Story Writing Competition.
