Bembridge Windmill to mark 50th anniversary and it's one of the locations featured in my thriller In For The Kill

One of the Isle of Wight's best-loved historic landmarks, Bembridge Windmill , which is 300 years old, is marking its 50th anniversary in the care of the National Trust on Sunday June 19 with a special community day.  Bembridge is the home of Alex Albury, the protagonist in my thriller In For The Kill and in the opening chapters you will find Alex stretching his legs on the walk from the windmill across the RSPB nature reserve and into Brading after being released from prison for a crime he didn't commit. There he meets Deeta, who features in the thriller and without wanting to give anything away there is a scene in the novel reminiscent of the one with Cary Grant in North by North West (a great Hitchock film)  where Alex is forced to run for his life to where the Windmill stands. Another little gem of an idea for a future marine mystery crime novel set against the backdrop of the sea

This week there is to be a dramatic oil spill exercise over the sea off the Isle of Wight with a Hercules aircraft and I thought this another little gem of an idea that could be woven into either a future DI Andy Horton crime novel or a thriller .  The sound of the Hercules will also bring back memories of the time I spent living at RAF Lyneham when my husband was in the RAF. The Hercules will be dropping water into the sea to simulate dropping detergents into the water in the case of a major oil spill. The training exercise, which runs between today and Thursday, was delayed when the company was called to tackle the Gulf of Mexico oil spill last year. The aircraft will be taking off...

Rise of Kindle sales of marine mystery crime novels and thrillers as e-reader market doubles

Image
An article on the Bookseller web site reported that the e-reader market doubled over Christmas with 7% of British adults receiving a dedicated e-reader bringing the total percentage of adults with e-book readers up to 13%, or 6.5m adults. I have certainly seen a considerable rise in the sales of my e books and on Kindle, which was revealed as the most popular device and the fastest growing overtaking the Sony Reader. And for anyone who wants a bargain for a limited period my e book publisher is offering my DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime novel Blood on the Sand on Kindle and my crime thriller novel , In For The Kill on Kindle at a special offer price on Amazon of 94p in the UK - yes 94pence!  And in the USA  the e book on Kindle of Blood on the Sand is on offer at $1.51 and In For the Kill   for the same bargain price. But if you prefer  to get your hands on the printed version of these novels or any of my other crime and thriller novel...
