Finished third revisions of the next DI Andy Horton crime novel and pleased with it

Image
On Sunday I finished the third revisions of the DI Andy Horton crime novel (number seven in the series) and I am pleased with it.  The next stage is to go through the novel again and to check that everything is as it should be and to make sure that all the clues and red herrings are in place and the characters are behaving as they should even if that means they are misbehaving. It's a complex plot with subplots, as is my usual style, with more revealed in this novel about Jennifer Horton's disappearance.  It is set in Portsmouth and around Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, with some trips across the Solent in the police launch.  The police launch coming out of Portsmouth Commerical Ferry Port and HM Naval Base - Is DI Andy Horton on board with Sergeant Elkins and PC Ripley? Ventnor, Isle of Wight Now, as I start what I hope to be the final revisions, I will need to start working on a title. Hopefully one will come to me as I go th...

Pauline Rowson to appear at the Isle of Wight Arts Festival -Ventnor -17 April 2011

I've added a new event to the Calendar of Events.  On Sunday 17 April at 4pm I will be talking about my marine mystery crime and thriller novels at the  Isle of Wight Arts Festival, Ventnor - The Arts Festival by the Sea.  I will be at the Royal Hotel, Ventnor . I'm delighted to have been asked to speak at this really exciting arts festival and I'm in such stunning company too, appearing alongside Barry Norman and Edward Fox, what more could a crime writer want? Two of my novels are set on the Isle of Wight, In For The Kill , a fast paced thriller and Blood on the Sand, a DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime novel.  Coincidentally the Horton crime novel I am currently writing is set around Ventnor and along the coast from it. My other marine mysteries and thrillers are set around the Solent area and Portsmouth. More details to follow but for more information and tickets, which I believe go on sale next week visit http://ventnorfestival.org/

National Protest Day - Saturday 5 February - Hands off our libraries, including those on the Isle of Wight

Image
This Saturday sees a national day of protest against 400 planned library closures and there is a fantastic article in The Guardian today about libraries and in particular the libraries on the Isle of Wight of which nine out of eleven on the Island are under threat of closure.  One of the libraries featured in the article is a beautiful library - Ventnor library   which, as The Guardian says , 'sits four-square behind a broad pavement on the High Street towards the top of town, a solid, stone-fronted edifice first built in 1850 for a splendidly Victorian outfit called the Ventnor and Bonchurch Literary and Scientific Institution.' I don't have a picture of Ventnor Library but here is one of the town, looking down on it into Ventnor Bay. Looking north into Ventnor Bay Looking  south down into Ventnor Bay with the town on the right  'Ventnor public library  has 7,401 registered users (the town itself has a population of just under 6,000). A fitting place for a crime

Image
I visited Ventnor Library today, and for those of you who have no idea where Ventnor is it’s on the beautiful Isle of Wight (IOW), which is situated across the Solent from Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, where Inspector Horton of my marine mystery crime novels does his best to catch villains and make the streets a safer place for law abiding citizens.  And no, there wasn't a body in the library, at least not a dead one but lots of very lively people making use of the facilities including a group of children who were listening intently to a story being told them. The Isle of Wight features in one of my crime thriller novels, In For The Kill and in my new Inspector Horton, Blood on the Sand , which will be published by Severn House on 26 February 2010. And just in case anyone from Southampton or Lymington is reading this blog then I had better quickly add that the IOW is also situated across the Solent from both Southampton and Lymington. Anyway, to get ...
