Eight crime novels, twelve business books and counting

I spent Sunday afternoon, all day yesterday, and today working on the copy-edits of the next Inspector Andy Horton marine mystery police procedural crime novel: Footsteps on the Shore . I'm relieved and pleased to say that I finished going through the novel at about four o'clock yesterday and then decided to read it through again to double check everything.  Today I should finish that and then it's a deep breath and press send to e mail it to my editor. The next time I will get to see Footsteps on the Shore  will be at the proofs stage and by then it will be too late to change much, if anything. That's when I get the jitters.  Could I have re-written that section to improve it?  Should I have included something else? Too late. But it's been an interesting exercise and not too painful and it's helped me with writing the current Inspector Andy Horton which follows directly on from Footsteps on the Shore . Footsteps on the Shore will be the sixth in the...

e books and print sales

Image
E books have been around for some years. I forget just how many but my own business books and novels have been available as e books and still are, with the latest Dead Man's Wharf being released as an e book just before Christmas. (You can find all my e books by clicking on the relevant book page on my official web site or at e book.com .  They're probably also on sale elsewhere, but I'll leave you to hunt for that, if you wish to).  Anyway, a press release from Amazon recently claimed that its Christmas Day e book sales beat the print sales.  Now, I just couldn't let this pass without commenting on it because it is one of those press releases which says absolutely nothing but which was highly successful. Why?  Because: 1. It was timed to perfection - when there was so little news about that it was guaranteed getting in somewhere. 2. It achieved its desired objective of getting into print and on to the Internet (even I'm blogging about it!)....

NEW Audio Book and Business Books

Image
It may be summer (although you'd never guess it from the weather) and holiday time, but it's a busy August for me with the publication of the new unabridged audio book version of The Suffocating Sea , the third in the Inspector Horton Marine Mystery series of crime novels set in the Solent area, and the publication of three of my new marketing and sales books. The Suffocating Sea has been published by Isis Publishing as an Unabridged Audio Book. It is read by Gordon Griffin and is available in cassette and CD form and as a download. Readers will also be able to take it out on loan from UK libraries. In addition, three of my new marketing and sales books are also published today by Crimson, as part of an exciting new business series - Get Brilliant Results Fast. Successful Marketing , Successful Sales and Successful Customer Services are packed full of tips and techniques to help businesses get results quickly. They include case studies, action points and a quick recap at the...

Chinese Translations And New Business Books

Image
Most people know me for writing crime novels, especially the Inspector Horton Marine Mystery series, but I am also the author of several business books. Yesterday I received two packages. One contained the Chinese translation of two of my books combined into one, and the other package contained copies of three new business books I've written, which are being published by Crimson Publishing on 1 August 2009. The Chinese book is called Be A Champion and this book combines two of my communication and motivational titles: Being Positive & Staying Positive , and Communicating With More Confidence with that of another book called Stress & Time Management written by Brian Lomas who I have known for some time. Brian is Managing Director of Executive Shadows and is a highly respected trainer and business consultant . It always gives me a real buzz when I see my work translated into another language and to imagine people reading it all over the world. The three new business books...

Face-To-Face Networking

I'm preparing for my talk, the Pink Ladies Lunch, tomorrow at The Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane, London. No, it's not a Barbara Cartland fan convention but a networking lunch amongst businesswomen in aid of the charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, organised by Business Consort. You can find details of all their events at http://www.aurora-marketing.com/events_courses.php?region_id=5 . I 'll be talking about my crime novels, my career and my business books. The audience are all business women who use the lunch not only to relax away from the workplace for a couple of hours, but to also make new contacts and hopefully do a bit of business together in the future. As the saying goes, 'It's not what you know, but who you know'. When I ran my Marketing, Training and PR company networking was an important part of winning new clients and now that I am a full-time writer and guest speaker it's no different. Networking sometimes gives me new ideas for my crime a...
