The news that The Book Depository has been bought by Amazon came as a shock to me. I didn't expect it but maybe I should have done because The Book Depository has been and is very successful. The Book Depository  feature my DI Horton marine mystery crime novels and thrillers under their Featured Crime and Thriller Section and have indeed been a huge supporter of my crime novels. It's summer time and even the sun has decided to shine (well at the time of me writing this it is) and that means time to perhaps catch up on reading while lounging in a deckchair in the garden or on the beach. Or you might be taking a cruise or jetting off to even sunnier climes and wish to chill out with a thriller or crime novel. So here comes the advertisement. I'm very pleased to say that sales of my crime novels seem to be doing very well this year thanks I suspect to some really good media coverage and interviews but also a special offer on Amazon's Kindle  both in the UK and the USA of my stand alone thriller, In For The Kill , and of Blood on the Sand , a DI Andy Horton crime novel.  And sales of the paperback of both these novels, I am told, are up considerably, which poses an interesting question, is this because of the raised profile on Amazon?  Although I would have thought people buying the e book would be different types of buyer  to those buying the paperback, so perhaps it's simply be a coincidence. Perhaps though it is in part due to word of mouth recommendation as one reader tells another.  The power of word of mouth must never be overlooked and plays a considerable role in successful marketing. E books have been around for some years. I forget just how many but my own business books and novels have been available as e books and still are, with the latest Dead Man's Wharf being released as an e book just before Christmas. (You can find all my e books by clicking on the relevant book page on my official web site or at e book.com .  They're probably also on sale elsewhere, but I'll leave you to hunt for that, if you wish to).  Anyway, a press release from Amazon recently claimed that its Christmas Day e book sales beat the print sales.  Now, I just couldn't let this pass without commenting on it because it is one of those press releases which says absolutely nothing but which was highly successful. Why?  Because: 1. It was timed to perfection - when there was so little news about that it was guaranteed getting in somewhere. 2. It achieved its desired objective of getting into print and on to the Internet (even I'm blogging about it!)....

The trade paperback version of Dead Man's Wharf is being published by Severn House (that's the larger sized paperback) on 28 February 2010, which happens to be my birthday!  Dead Man's Wharf   is the fourth Inspector Horton Marine Mystery Crime Novel. Horton and Cantelli are called to a nursing home where a resident claims she’s been attacked by an intruder. Yes, Amazon has lost all the customer reviews for my marine mystery crime novels: Tide of Death , Deadly Waters , (mass market paperback version), In Cold Daylight and In For The Kill . They have simply vanished from the Amazon web site while others stubbornly stick for some of my other books. Have I done something to upset Amazon I wonder? The customer service people at Amazon tell me: ‘We are currently experiencing some technical issues which are affecting customer reviews and ratings, some disappearing from the site. We can confirm that we are aware of this and our technical team is investigating the issue. As soon as the issue is resolved, your reviews will re appear on the website as they were before they disappeared.’ Now I don’t mind losing the bad reviews (and every writer gets them) but they’re not the ones that have vanished. I have just received copies of the Polish translation of my thriller In For The Kill . (The Polish version is on the left, and the English one on the right in case you have any doubts!) It's always exciting to see your work in another language. Red Horse Publishers based in Poland bought the translation rights to three of my crime and thriller novels earlier this year and this is the first one to be published in Poland. In For The Kill was first published in the UK in 2007 and has already been translated into Indonesian It is a compelling, harrowing thriller which follows the main character, Alex Albury, on a quest to discover who destroyed his life by stealing his identity, and framing him for fraud and embezzlement.
