The Julian Clegg Christmas Party on BBC Radio Solent Friday 23 December was a big hit. Here are some photographs from the event. I was so pleased when Julian Clegg invited me on air on 2 November to join him and his guests once again for his great Christmas Party on BBC Radio Solent on Friday 23 December, and the invitation confirming this dropped into my in box last week. I wouldn't miss it for the world. It's one of the highlights in my Christmas Calendar. I'll be mingling with Julian's lovely guests in the BBC Staff Canteen sipping coffee and eating croissants between 6.30am to 9.30am on Friday 23 December.  It's great fun not only chatting to Julian but also to his wonderful and very interesting guests. Last year we were also entertained by a lovely choir. The programme is LIVE.  I'm not sure when I'll be on air but it will be after 7.30 am and I'll be talking to Julian about my crime novels, which are set in the Solent area. Looking forward to chatting to Julian Clegg again on his very popular Breakfast Programme on BBC Radio Solent tomorrow morning at about 6.45am when I'll be telling listeners about CSI Portsmouth 2011 - where crime fiction meets crime fact -  at John Pounds Community Centre, Portsea, Portsmouth, England on 5 November. No doubt we'll also get round to talking about other things including my DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime novels and Julian's firm conviction that one day we will see Horton on the television! I shall be on BBC Radio Solent on Wednesday 13 July talking to Julian Clegg, giving him and his listeners an update on my marine mystery crime  and thriller novels . It will be an early session as usual, at about 6.45 a.m. It's always great to talk to Julian and to be on the radio and I really enjoyed my long interview with Alex Dyke on his Big Hour slot on BBC Radio Solent on 20 June. I hope to return to his show in due course where Alex can once again grill me about the world of publishing, writing and my crime novels Other than that it should be a quiet July, without any other appearances scheduled although something might crop up at the last moment. Meanwhile it's a good time to crack on with the writing. The DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime novel number eight is coming along a treat.  I'm half way through the first draft and think I now have the plot fully worked out... although  having said that who knows, it could change yet.

On Monday 9 May I've been invited to be the lunch time guest speaker at The Probus Club of Havant .  I'll be talking about the inspiration behind my DI Andy Horton marine mystery crime series and how I write my crime and thriller novels . Probus Membership is a professional club open to all men of any age who have partially or fully retired from professional or business activities. I'll be talking to an audience of forty and signing copies of my crime and thriller novels. Looking forward to it and hope to post some photos on here, my web site  and Facebook after the event. Yes, once again I'll be chatting to Julian Clegg on his very popular breakfast show on BBC Radio Solent tomorrow morning some time between 6.45am and 7am.  So it's up early for me and hopefully a chance to grab a coffee before I go on air to wake me up before I start the interview otherwise goodness knows what I'll say. It was good to be in the BBC Radio Solent studio again yesterday, talking to Julian Clegg about the CWA Young Crime Writers Competition . I thoroughly enjoyed it,  and chatting to Darren at Express FM about my new DI Andy Horton novel, Footsteps on the Shore   the sixth in the Inspector Andy Horton marine mystery series due out on 27 January . Thought I'd post a couple of photographs here from yesterday morning in the BBC studio. The quality is not brilliant as they were snapped the other side of the glass from the studio, but you'll get the gist! Julian's production team were hard at work pulling the programme together putting callers through to Julian and flagging up the issues of the day both local and national.  While I was in the studio the hot topics (yesterday) were Dorset County Council's proposals to abolish Lollipop ladies and men - it got very heated! Yes, I've had some good coverage in the media for the Young Crime Writers Competition to find the best young crime writers in the UK in a national competition launched by the Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) and sponsored by CRIMEFEST , an International crime convention held in Britain. I've been talking about it on Portsmouth Live TV and on Spirit FM and tomorrow I wil be live on the Julian Clegg Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Solent at about 7.20am, and then chatting to Darren Gamblen on Express FM 93.7   at 9.30am or thereabouts. The Chichester Observer and West Sussex Gazette are planning to cover the story in this week's newspapers. Had a fantastic time this morning at the Julian Clegg Christmas Party on BBC Radio Solent, which was broadcast live between 6.30am and 9.30am. It was a lovely way to start the Christmas celebrations. Julian was his usual bright self, and the organisation superb as always thanks to Talia ( below), Lewis and their many helpers. It's an early start tomorrow morning because I'm off to the Julian Clegg Christmas Party Show at BBC Radio Solent studios in Southampton, broadcast live from 6.30am to 9.30 am.  I'm not sure what time I will be on air but it will be sometime after 7.45 am.  It will be coffee and croissants and the chance to meet up with  the guests Julian has featured on his very popular breakfast radio show throughout the year, plus of course see again Julian's delightful team of Talia and Lewis. It's always a good atmosphere. I hope to post some photographs of the event later tomorrow. Before that it's marzipan the Christmas cake time, finish off some bits of correspondence and then on with some writing.

Murder and mayhem is on the agenda tonight when I will be guest speaker at the Women's Institute in  Broad Chalke, near Salisbury, UK giving a talk about my Inspector Andy Horton crime novels and my thrillers. I've spoken at many WI meetings and always enjoy them. Tonight, as at other WIs, I am sure that the audience will be friendly and welcoming. Hopefully I'll be able to post some photographs from the event on the blog tomorrow. Then it's off to the Isle of Wight next week to present prizes to the adult winners of the Wight Fair Writing Circle Winter Short Story Competition in aid of charity before supping coffee and stuffing croissants at the Julian Clegg BBC Radio Solent Christmas party in Southampton on Christmas Eve. I was up bright and early this morning to be interviewed by Julian Clegg on his Breakfast Show on BBC Radio Solent.  It's always nice chatting to Julian Clegg who is such a professional broadcaster and so cheerful in the mornings, but then we'd hardly want someone miserable to wake us up. I was very fortunate to be selected as one of Julian's Peo ple a couple of years ago, which means that Julian and listeners to his very popular show have been following the progress and news on certain people from the South Coast.  This morning we chatted about the success of the CSI Portsmouth Crime and the City event on 6 November and Julian is very keen to do something around the event in 2011, which would be great.  We also talked about my forthcoming appearance in Waterstone's in Commercial Road, Portsmouth this coming Saturday (27 November) between 12 noon to 2pm and the publication of the sixth in the Inspector Andy Horton series, Footsteps on the Shore , to be published o...

A bright and early start tomorrow when I'll be talking to Julian Clegg on his Radio Solent Breakfast Show ( although according to the BBC Radio Solent web site this could be Steve Harris). This is scheduled for 6.45a.m. give or take a few minutes.  It's always great to chat with Julian or Steve, and give listeners a quick up date on what is happening in the life of this crime author and her marine mystery crime novels, which are set in the South of England! So if you get a chance then tune in or listen via the Internet. Next up on the same day is a talk at the Waterlooville branch of U3A at 2pm. I heard from the radio station this morning about my radio interview which should have been broadcast last night at 7pm on Express FM but wasn't.  Unfortunately there was a technical fault with the recording so it couldn't go out, which is a real shame.  I enjoyed talking to Rob Richardson about my crime novels, and we are hoping to re-schedule. Having worked in Marketing and PR I know that these things do sometimes happen with recorded interviews, or your planned interview can be squeezed out by other more pressing and topical news, which is one reason why I enjoy doing live interviews. I am scheduled to be live on Radio Solent in July, talking to Julian Clegg on his Breakfast Show. Yesterday I started the day, at what seemed like the crack of dawn, being interviewed on Radio Solent by Chris Carnegie about my marine mystery crime novels. Chris was standing in for Julian Clegg.  It was at 6.50 a.m. so I'm not sure if anyone heard me! Perhaps the early morning commuters did and those getting ready for work. It's always nice to chat to Julian and Chris.  This was followed by a fantastic walk along Sandown Bay to Shanklin and across Brading Marshes on the Isle of Wight after which I spent a delightful hour poring over old books in an antiquarian bookshop just off the green at St Helen's called Mother Goose.   I bought two books by one of my favourite crime writers, Josephine Tey . I already have three Josephine Tey novels in my collection: The Franchise Affair , The Singing Sands (featuring Inspector Grant) and Miss Pym Disposes all of which I have read several times with great pleasure.  Now I can add A Shilling For Cand...

March and spring is on its way, hooray! So what have I got happening in March? Quite a lot actually. Aside from putting the finishing touches to the Inspector Andy Horton novel I’m writing there are a clutch of events. Firstly, my crime thriller novel In For The Kill is being featured in Read an E Book Week 7-13 March 2010. In For The Kill is set on the Isle of Wight on the south coast of England and is a thriller about what happens to one man when his identity is stolen. For Alex Albury, the hero, the nightmare that destroyed his life will only end in death; his or his tormentor’s. With its twists and turns the reader is sucked into a frightening world of deception, betrayal and revenge in a highly topical story that has its roots deep in the past. I had a great time at the Christmas party this morning at the BBC Radio Solent studio in Southampton. Good fun, croissants, coffee and mince pies and Julian Clegg, of course. I was talking to Julian Clegg on The Breakfast Programme about my marine mystery crime novels, the possibility of film and television adaptations and the recent news that they are to be translated into Turkish. I met some interesting people including Hannah Watts, Young Ambassador for the London Olympic Games,an energetic and inspirational young person. She is to the left of Julian Clegg in the mauve top. It was also nice to catch up with my friend and fellow author, Ali Sparkes. Ali is on the left holding her novel, Frozen in Time , which has been shortlisted for the Blue Peter Prize with me holding Dead Man's Wharf.
